GRA to conduct Border Security Training Course

As plans for the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) X heighten and the date for the event draws closer, the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has disclosed that it will be conducting a Border Security Training Course for Guyana’s Immigration and Customs Officers from July 21-23, 2008.
The training will take place at the Customs Training Academy, Main and Hope Streets, Georgetown and the opening ceremony will see Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony delivering the feature address.
Ministers of Home Affairs and Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Clement Rohee and Manniram Prashad respectively are slated to deliver remarks as well.
Areas to be examined during the three-day training sessions include Guyana’s Preparedness/threats for CARIFESTA, Attitudinal and behaviourial changes/staff integrity, hosting of CARIFESTA as a nation, the role of officers in a changing environment, passenger profiling, analyzing and general information and procedures on clearance of passengers and baggage.
Meanwhile, presentations on the various topics will be made by a number of officials including those from the Guyana Police Force, the GRA, the University of Peace Studies and the CARIFESTA Secretariat.
